WORD CHOICE (ACADEMIC DICTION)

Word choice (diction) refers to the words one uses to express their ideas. Being aware of these words is very important because words that have almost the same dictionary definitions and/or sound the same could have very different implied meanings which could, in turn, change the meaning of your idea(s). Word choice is a very broad topic because different academic disciplines have different words limited to their scope (we will try to break down this as time goes by). This entry is about some of the most commonly confused words, most of which cut across all academic disciplines. I chose to do this in the form of images, it is much easier; do enjoy and learn 😃

PS: The images are consecutive.

PPS: The Research & Publication Clinic is conducting a survey on problems faced by RMUTI/Thai researchers when writing in English language and the solutions to these problems - that is, how the researchers want to be helped or what they would like to happen in order to help them write better in English. Solutions by the people for the people!

We would therefore like volunteers (as many volunteers as possible) in 3 categories:

    - New researchers - new lecturers.
   -  Mid-level researchers - assistant professors/ lecturers with a bit of experience/ a few published papers.
   -  Experienced researchers - professors with  substantial publications

Kindly get in touch with the language advisor for voluntary participation in answering the survey questionnaire by 10/08/2563 through email or LINE App.
